Matching colour, texture and length
Extensions only look natural if they blend with the hair they join. Matching is a skill, and it is worth practising before you work with clients.
Natural hair is rarely one flat shade. Fitters check the roots, the mid lengths and the ends in daylight, and often blend two shades to copy the client’s own variation.
Straight, wavy and curly hair all behave differently. An extension that is straighter or curlier than the client’s hair will stand out as soon as it is washed.
Longer extensions weigh more. A sensible fitter chooses a length the client’s own hair can carry comfortably, and explains why.
Whoever you buy hair from, ask where it comes from and how it should be cared for. If something sounds too good to be true, ask for it in writing.
Training providers usually cover matching on the day. If you plan to ask about Birmingham dates, add a question about colour matching to your list.
Message the provider to ask for the latest Birmingham dates, what is in the starter kit and how to get there.
